About the Photo Editor Position

We’re seeking an enthusiastic, experienced Photo Editor to work alongside our photographers, editors, and writers. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to understand how photos assist in storytelling and have a strong knowledge of best photography practices.

Photo Editor Responsibilities

• Consult with editors, writers, and photographers to determine the visual needs for each story
• Assign projects to photographers
• Hire specialty photographers as needed
• Provide feedback to photographers as needed
• Choose photographs that work alongside the text, coordinating with the editorial team
• Edit photographs so that they are visually appealing, clean, and clear
• Obtain rights to use photographs as needed
• Obtain clearance to shoot at designated locations as needed
• Keep up-to-date on industry trends and editing software advancements

Photo Editor Requirements

• AA or BA in photography, visual arts, digital media, or similar field
• [1+] years experience as a Photo Editor
• Robust portfolio showcasing editing experience
• Knowledge of best photography practices
• Proficiency with photo editing software including Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign, and similar programs
• Superb presentation and communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
