Editor Job Description

About the Editor Position

Our company is looking for a highly motivated, experienced Editor to join our team. As an Editor, you’ll be involved in almost all parts of the process, from assigning stories to reviewing materials before publication. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as is a keen eye for detail. At our company, we value a creative mindset and are seeking someone who knows how to be a team player to get the job done.

Editor Responsibilities

• Oversee a team of writers, assisting them in generating fresh story ideas and assigning work when needed
• Lead [daily, weekly] budget meetings to ensure all important stories are being covered
• Establish and enforce publication standards
• Fact-check and authenticate dates, figures, and other relevant details
• Edit stories to ensure they’re clean and error-free
• Enforce tight deadlines to meet all publication goals
• Work alongside other teams, including layout, photography, and videography, to ensure a story is presented in the best way possible
• Approve social media posts and graphics that accompany published stories
• Adhere to all media laws and regulations

Editor Requirements

• BA in journalism, communications, or related field
• [3+] years experience as an Editor
• Superb editing, writing, and proofreading skills, including a firm understanding of AP Style
• Working knowledge of SEO and social media 
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other publishing tools, including various content management systems
